Starting Nursing School Anxiety!

Hello.

So your girl is starting nursing school.

This will probably be the most hectic 2 1/2 years of my life. But in the end… I know it will all be worth it.

So far, I ordered my uniform and have been incessantly studying dosage calculations. It’s basically a lot of “cross-multiplication” if that makes sense. And canceling out units that you don’t need anymore.

At first, I did not get accepted into nursing school. It wasn't until this March that I got accepted, and I feel ready now more than ever to be a nurse and take care of other people. I’m glad that I got accepted when I was 20, and now I will be starting nursing school at 21 years old.

I feel ready now because I have experience with patient care.

A little recap on my life: So I’ve been working at a hospital for about 6 months now. Once I got my CNA license, I was given the opportunity to work in a hospital. I’m part of the float pool so I get to go to many different units! So far, my favorite units would be psych and the ICU units. I really like the “therapeutic” vibe of the psych unit and I like the intensity of the ICU.

Being a nursing assistant and working for a hospital has made me much more comfortable when it comes to patient care and I feel much more comfortable entering nursing school with the knowledge that I acquired. I am also excited because I am going to become a PCT! That stands for Patient Care Technician, and they can do everything that a CNA can, along with other responsibilities. I know it differs based on where you work, but once I become a PCT, I will be able to draw blood, do EKG, and much more! My promotion isn't until August, but I’m still very excited.

So far… I am very excited to start nursing school. Very nervous, but very excited. I’m going to have to say goodbye to everyone for 2 1/2 years so I can just focus on nursing school, but once I come out, I will be ready to save a life.

Side Note: I know this is like super jumbled and unorganized but this is how I talk lol also I was just typing this up while sitting in a Vietnamese Coffee Shop in Towson. I’m chilling with my friend and we are heading home at around 5, and gas prices are currently soaring so we decided to take the bus.
